This was the final test flight i our Piper Warrior before we released the first version of Air Navigation Pro as a native iPad version.

Our best selling navigation app can now run on iPhone and iPad - but it is not simply the bigger screen that makes the difference: For the iPad we have developed a new user interface which can display a nav instrument, the navigation plan and a large moving map at the same time.

We have also many new functions - the most spectacular beeing the "GPS bridge" which enables a (GPS less) "Wifi iPad" (the cheaper version without 3 G and GPS) to use the iPhone's GPS. Once the bridge is set up the iPad receives the GPS data from the iPhone to display the real time navigation data and map.

With this solution you can have an iPhone (preferably in the car kit) in the field of view for maps or checklists and at the same time have the thin and light iPad with the moving map on your lap, just like you used your paper maps. I enjoyed the flight a lot and the iPad proved to be a perfect companion in the cockpit.

And don't forget: you can not only navigate with the ipad , you can also store all your flight or Avionics manuals on it plus other PDF documents. you can also carry books, magazines, newspapers, your favourite movies - and the games for the kids.

The only drawback is that you get requests from the economy class all the time: "Daddy, can i have the iPad now?. No, sorry, you can have it when we've landed, i need it for the approach now ...:-))

  • Hi, I love Air Nav Pro. I find the only real option for pilots in Europe who want to declutter their cockpit. However, I have a problem I can't fix. I bought a map in the map store on my old ipad 1 and now have an ipad 2. Unfortunately I cannot find a way to transfer the previous map purchase to my new ipad 2. Is there a way to do this?

  • @formfaktor

Just download the map again for free! you will not be charged again!

  • were getting "too many nifty gadgets' in the cockpit. period.

i don't NEED another HSI display, on an IPAD, or to feel i have to reference

4 or 5 redundant NAV info sources, to execute and end, a successful flight.

this is getting utterly ridiculous. how many goddamn LCD screen devices do we need?

  • @drumdude46

to a certain extent i can relate to what you are sayoing, but: this system is ot for the Cirrus SR20, Mooney or King Air owner but is meant to be used in aircraft that have no gps navigation on board.

  • I cannot seem to get any weather data. The information boxes for stations such as KLGA or KFRG (that I've selected) just remain blank.

  • @formfaktor your statement about the european pilots is true. The US-pilots can do much more with Ipad.

  • @Geistero and paper doesnt require batteries!! ; )

  • @lovemyrinker yes, the paper map is the safest device...:))

  • I think there is a gross misunderstanding here. These devices are excellent to have for situational awareness and emergencies. However they are meant to be used as a supplement. By no means should a flight be made by sole reference to an ipad. Excellent tool but never become complacent in a cockpit. Always remain vigilant.

  • Hi, is safe to use this software??? Where can I download it???

  • @candidamusic You actually turn off the cell and wifi data (wifi optional since it doesn't cause interference) the GPS works well for situational awareness. Great tool when IFR. It's nice to see your airplane on the airway as a backup to the panel mounted gps. I also use Jeppesen Mobile TC for my approach plates. Another great tool but I ALWAYS have paper charts to back them up.
