Hopefully the first of many in a series

Most atheists read. We read books because we want to learn. after rejecting supernatural accounts of how the world works we want to find out how reality actually works.

We read science, philosophy and also occasionally relax with a healthy dose of fiction (acknowledged fiction obviously).

I want to start reviewing books that I have read over the past few months since I became an "out" atheist.

I start with the book that I started with....

  • you look like the guy from the atheist experience at first glance

  • @D3THFAN I know....I was at the AAI convention last October and 3 people mistook me from him...mind you as soon as I spoke they realised their error! (I even spell with a British accent!)

  • Was that a fart at the 54 second mark????

    Couldn't believe my ears!

  • Nah, I have no idea what it is, it appears on may of my vids in the soundtrack. I think it's a problem with my built in microphone.

    But thanks for noticing!

  • I am working backwards with Dawkins having started at the God delusion. Thank you. Good video

  • I have to admit that I'm working backwards too. I loved "Devil's Chaplain" and the best so far is "Unweaving the Rainbow" I'm looking forward to the others.

  • Dawkins, Harris and Hichens... 3 of the greatest writers on the subject

  • Just like you, Dawkin's book was the book about religion I was waiting for all my life, and I agree exactly with your review; perfectly captured it. Really enjoying these reviews; keep 'em coming.

  • I must say that Richard Dawkins is a fantastic science writer and when it comes to some of the more extreme elements of religion I totally share his horror but I'm afraid the God Delusion wasn't very convincing for me. I'd prefer it if Dawkins would be better sticking to what he does so well, writing about science.

Stephen Jay Gould is another example of a wonderful popular science writter who moved away from science & wrote a book on religion 'Rocks of ages.' , the book was not a good read..

  • Dawkins also has a double standard too. He cites a litany of statistics revealing red states (with many conservative Christians) suffer higher rates of crime, including murder, & theft, than do blue states. But now consider his response to the suggestion that the atheist Stalin & his comrades committed crimes of breathtaking magnitude: “We are not in the business,” he says, “of counting evils heads, compiling two rival roll calls of iniquity.”...Well, he certainly was a few pages earlier....

  • The God Delusion wasn't as good as Dawkin's science books I think. I liked he bits where he wrote about how an atheist can both a happy and moral person. However I read a review by H Allen which made some good points. Dawkins Ultimate Boeing 747 argument was at the centre of his argument. Dawkins branded his argument “unanswerable,” and boasted that it had stumped all theologians who had met it although the Ultimate 747 argument was shredded by reviewers......

  • very good review

  • good series, great reviews, thanks for all of the posts..!!!

  • What are you (lyzippy2) saying at the end: "As an aside, I can ??"

I can't understand what you said.

Btw, great review and welcome to the wonderful world of rationality and reasoning!
