Yeh, . . . .b5!?.(And NOT . . .a6?! as played.( Black simply doesn't have the time-luxury of preparing . . .b5 with . . a6 in this variation) White's king is on c1 so that'll mean ANOTHER tempo gain for black should he eat . . .b5 (He must eat as . . .b4 looms). Remember, in this game topolov sacrificed TWO pawns for his attack while here blacks only sacrificing ONE. After Be3-h6-BxBg7 and his pawn moves attacking black's king that= a LOT of tempi. And MEANWHILE BLACK SHOULD ATTACK!!!!!!

Im a"dragonite" (born and bred.) Every time "clouds of darkness" appear over the dragon some gited chess player,(usually backed up by a strong computer) blows the clouds away and the dragon's fine again. I think . . . .a6 was a bit lame here, and may have sown the seeds of black's defeat. In the "tempo dash" an immediate . . .b5!? is often played. Sure, it's a pawn, but black deflects a white piece from the centre in eating it and black gets open lines and . . .ACTIVITY.

instead of gx f5 why not simply g5?

I believe this is what Fischer titled his game against Larsen in My Sixty Memorable Games?

@LeonComposer Well it would seem a bit silly matching up these chess players when they are around average 200 FIDE points different. Just a comparison of the worlds best women in chess to the worlds best men. Same is due with golf, once they put the woman #1 in the open tournament with the men, she finished in the 200's.

I find that I can look quite pretty far into variations, but the problem is is that I get hooked on an idea of attack with a complete imagination of the exchange and my defense is lacking to some other attack from my opponent. It is much easier to imagine attack more than defense because you really know what you're after with an attack rather than guessing what is going to happen with apparent moves from what is really the other person's attack that sometimes I just get wrong.

Ok, They play the main line until white decides to move his king to b1.....responding with a6 was WAY to passive for a dragon player. I think if he coulda done an immediate ...Nc4 then bringing out his queen he coulda had a chance. Dragon players will always lose if they only defend because its a very offensive response. Also, the famous ...Rxc3 is always a goal for a dragon player. I think that one mistake of a6 gave white enough momentum to beat him. Good video!
