This is my way to say Happy Easter to all you fellow youtubers out there. I took a walk in central Stockholm with my trustworthy cam, trying to get in the Easter mood. In a record store near Slussen I found a bunch of nice and obscure LPs with early jazz recordings from the 1920s. So, that only made my mood better and prolonged my walk. The snow is now finally gone here in Stockholm, but as you can see in the video, the ice is being carried away by the water. Bye, bye, see you next winter.

Anyway, I put together some short video clips and wondered how to present them here of course I need a soundtrack with an April theme - so I let George Shearing and his quintet (with the help of an MGM record from my collection) accompany the spring clips from Stockholm. The soundtrack was recorded in New York, December 12, 1949 and the images were recorded in Stockholm, April 3, 2010 and I think they fit rather well together.

  • Oops. Sorry...I was thinking of 'September in the Rain' when I posted the 900,000 statistic in my previous comment, so please ignore the first sentence there.

  • @ljliljohn "September in the rain" is the first record I found with George Shearing (it was one of the records in the first pile of 78 rpm records I ever bought even), and is still one of my favourites with him,

  • An absolute, all time classic; sold 900,000 copies. I saw the original quartet in 1950 at the Earle theater in Philadelphia, when I was 18 and already a huge fan. There was then a radio station in Philly which had a half hour sponsored by MGM records, so most of the time Shearing or Billy Eckstine were heard. Wow!

  • god bless george. I'll remember April and I'll smile""" Thank you xx

  • god bless SIR GEORGE.we will remember you r.i.p.

  • George Shearing RIP. The end of an era in jazz.

  • Very Good and Smooth as only Shearing could do.

  • Hej polarn, vilken fin film du gjort! :D Du har verkligen fångat mysiga vårbilder på din rulle! /A
