Deputies tell us a home owner was burning grass and went back in the home and came out to find the vacant home engulfed in flames and they called the fire department. Scanner traffic indicated the home owners called back a little later saying the mobile was starting to catch fire now as well. The mobile home was only about 15 feet or so away from the home and the intense heat alone was enough to ignite the siding on the mobile home. I left Ponca City and arrived at the fire and we got the fire extinguisher and offered it to the people that had stopped to help and they used it to knock down some of the fire on the mobile home and then went back for my video camera and starting shooting video. Total time from the time I heard the call on the scanner and the time I shot video of the first fire truck arriving at the residence well exceeded 20 minutes and was closer to 26 minutes. The closest fire department was 5.5 miles to the east in Kaw City.
