An artist writes music the way he wants.

A track is supposed to be an accurate representation of the Artists ideas, thoughts and emoticons. Not whatever the fuckin producer tells them to do.

I completely agree with Lars and Kirk. I dont give a fuck what you all say. It worked out in the end and let's face it, would you have it any other way?

Kirk is amazing. end of story. his wah pedal is used alot in his solos because he says it characterizes him, it shows who he is...he loves it! if you dont like it, go listen to megadeth or something like that where tue guitar solos sound like the guitar is puking something out.

This awesome. Kirk is such a nice dude, but a horrible lead player, always has been always will be. Bob Rock, with the possible exception of Mutt Lang, has produced more top rock albums than God.

@kevykev38 It seems to me that before this, Kirk just kinda sat on his ass and played solos out of it without any thought involved, albeit thrash solos are usually based around rough mixing, and it fit at the time, it's just a lazy man's way of writing music. As much as I love earlier Metallica (and still don't praise anyone in the band for the stuff, but it's kinda ok to listen to) the solos were kind of just...play fast and don't think of what you're playing over.

I think people are being too hard on Bob Rock here, he's a dick by necessity. I mean, yeah, he's really being a douche and it just creates a stressful environment, but he wanted to make the best sound he possibly could with this record, and to do that, you can't just go with the alright take, you have to wait for the good one.
