I bought a set of GFS pickups and installed them in my 2006 Epiphone Les Paul Standard. First you will hear the stock pickups then the GFS pickups after. Please note that I am not putting this video up here for critiques on my playing. I can play much better than what I am playing here this video is only for you to hear the sound of the pickups. To keep the video short I played faster than I normally would have, so i am sorry for any and all mistakes.

Stock Pickups: 57 Classic neck, and HOT CH bridge
GFS Pickups; 59 Alnico V neck, and VEH Alnico V bridge

  • I dont think you changed pickups at all. GFS kills Epiphone stock pickups

  • @Phishboy26

Yes the pickups were changed. The GFS that I bought were too close to stock and this is why I now have SD hotrodded set. Some GFS my kill stock but not these.

  • fucking love that guitar

  • @ravenshield56

    Thank you!

  • maybe just my imagiation but it seems that you may be strumming more lightly with the stock pickups and a little harder with the GFS pickups ,I'm not knocking GFS pickups I have some GFS retrotron liverpools on order myself

  • @gstrat59

Don't get me wrong I liked he GFS pickups but they were to close to the stock pickups for me. I may have strummed a bit harder but that would be just due to playing on different days.

  • vocally, the pickups sound real close, at least to me. The only thing I think I noticed is a slight difference in bass response between the two brands. Did you notice that too?

  • I think editing this so that you hear actual comparisons between the pickups was a great idea. It clearly reveals very little difference between the pickups--the originals seem to have a few more bright overtones at times. I think that much of what people think they hear is a halo effect. However, I have no doubt that a hotter set sounds much different. Thanks for taking the time to do this comparison.

  • absolutely the same sound/

  • Damnit, Bobby.

  • @Phishboy26 I am with u, I do not hear enough difference to think they were changed. think the tone knobs were adjusted a bit and he changed into that wrinkled Steelers T shirt he pulled out of dirty hamper.... Have an Epiphone LP Standard and installed set of Fat Pats in my Michael Kelly Patriot Decree and it is now my axe of choice... great sound without the MUDD sound I get from my Epiphone Pickups... Seymour Duncan's would have been nice but not dropping $150 when $40 gets a good sound..

  • Can agree on the distortion not being the nicest sounding however thanks a lot for this video... wanted to see what the HB's were like before buying them :D

  • @iSHAKEmyLITTLEpenis Hank Hill actually does play guitar. It;s an acoustic guitar named Betsy.

  • @iConverseMyLife Who the fuck are you? Martha Stewart? This guy isn't going to a job interview, he's playing guitar.
