Operating Model Train exhibit
November 27-December 29, 2009
The sound of a chugging train with bells and whistles will once again fill the Ohio County Historical Museum. There will be twelve operating model trains running during museum hours. Trains are popular, but Rising Sun and Ohio County never had a railroad. Between 1870 and 1920 there was much talk about brining a railroad to town. Various railroads sent surveyors to check the lay of the land. At times it appeared to be a done deal, but something or somebody always stopped it.
So if you love trains of any size come to the museum and watch trains in the scale size N, HO, O, and G. If you have not seen the layout start a tradition this year and visit. Other exhibits include the J. W. Whitlock Gallery featuring the Hoosier Boy hydroplane raceboat, chairs made in the Whitlock Chair Factory, and the autoharp (an early jukebox) and an exhibit on dressmaker that shows the process of making a dress with some of the tools used.
The train exhibit is sponsored by PFS Community Foundation.
