Eyebrow threading is a booming industry in Texas. But state bureaucrats are
making it impossible to continue practicing this ancient art.

Ash Patel shouldn't need to close his business to take 1,500 hours of beauty
school classes that don't even teach threading.

  • Seems to me that some bureaucrats are trying to justify their bloated salaries and gold-plated pensions.

  • Welcome to the Marxist transition from the governance of men to the administration of things. Texas has no business doing this, and needs to revert to being a redoubt against excessive government.

  • Also, knocking waxing or saying threading doesn't use chemicals...get over yourself. Everything is a chemical. Air is a chemical. Water is a chemical. How'd that thread get so white? I bet chemicals were involved! I'm not afraid of chemicals but I get really sick of people saying something is better because chemicals aren't involved.

  • What seems like a better idea than having them attend cosmetology school is to create an eyebrow threading course. They need to learn the difference between sanitation, disinfection, and sterilization. Where and when which one is appropriate. How to prevent infections. How to recognize them. And of course, the technique. Granted, many of them already know this, but there are some who would like to learn while going to school.

  • Way to go Wesley Hottot! Keep up your hard work, pal.

  • I've seen most threaders uses the method where one part of the thread is in their mouth wrapped around a tooth while, the other in their hand and they bob the head back and forth to give the criss cross motion. Hygiene is a factor, is the thread being reused on other customers and is it pulling the hair out or just cutting it on the top surface of the skin (which is what happened to me when I had it done) Some sort of regulation and license is needed.

  • My wife is an esthetician, and I can really sympathize with this business owner. However, to "diss" methods like waxing, and to imply that others "deserve" regulation and you don't - well, that's just B.S. There are a number of aspects to threading that don't seem all that hygienic, and to be honest it's just a glorified method of cutting the hair without using scissors. If these guys get a pass than so too do other beauty operators. If not, then change the rules for all.

  • Texas and other states are straped for cash. Many states are looking for ways to get more cash. This is why you will see more police giving out more tickets and trying to regulate all business's. The state will regulate all of our lives if we continue to keep our mouth shut. Today you must speak out and join with others that are freedom loving. Get with TEA Party organizations and speak out.

  • This over regulation and need to become an "official" anything is outrageous. If you can do something, why don't they get out of your way so you can do it. This is the kind of thing that stifles innovation and growth in all fields of everything in the world.

  • What dumb politician came up with this crap?! This is a total abuse of power! We need to strip our politicians of their power and start over with fresh new representatives with term limits!
