@ASLeslie Well first few years of my life had been hell till my parents decided that they wanted me to have a deaf teacher with ASL, remember it was back in 1960's. What a battle they went through and won. I am sorry about your parents and others. I see your parents did a good job raised you even through limited communication between you and them. :)

I am sorry about your parents and many others too. I was raised in oral program till I was about 8 then they fought school to get me a deaf teacher with ASL. It has not been easy for me to forgive those who supported oral programs to this day. At least your parents seem did a good job raised you and your brother.

@JLZC61 Yes, that is right that you are VERY lucky to have your parents who want to learn ASL in order to communicate with you - THAT is NICE! ;)

Hey Leslie...didn't realize you needed feedback about why our parents didn't learn ASL, I must've missed it somehow...my parents now deceased...my father was very strict not to allow me to sign in front of him...hid from him when friends stayed with me...when he's not home, friends (Deaf) signed with me...my siblings never learned as they were taught to make me talk all the time n not to learn...but now, they will learn this or that but has hard time remember but they wished they did long ago!

@DeafPoet2 Well, that is all right - but thank you for leaving your comment here - I do want everyone to see what Deaf people have to say something about their parents not to learn ASL which is quite common. That has been years and years of doing oppression of ASL. We must speak out because I am tired of bullshitting about ASL - Cut that crap - know what I mean?
