To get here by public transportation, take bus #105 towards Gobustan at the Funicular station in Baku; pass Gobustan for about 10km; get off bus (80 gepik) when you see large silver tanks on the left side of the road; walk away from road (on same side of road) towards little hill; cross railroad tracks; walk towards trail and follow trail; mud volcanoes are behind red rocks about 45 minute walk from main road.
i didn't try lighting it up...though I'm not sure there's enough methane to create a dramatic "fireball" effect. At Yanar Dag (in the Absheron Peninsula), the gas from the ground is continuous and keeps a fire going 24/7
