How long does it take to change the oil in an Elise? 51 seconds... if you move like they do.

Actually it took about 51 minutes. But it can definitely be done faster... For instance, make sure you have the right oil filter socket on hand!! I had to use a socket type because there really isn't much room for a strap type. I also wasted a lot of time going back and forth for tools. And I tend to be careful. You'll notice I never tighten or loosen anything in one go.

What you don't see is starting the engine, running it, checking for leaks, and re-checking oil levels. 4-1/2 quarts of oil go in, and then the rest (about 1/2 quart) goes in after running and checking levels several times.

I think 30-40 minutes is realistic. I'm tired of people claiming they can do something in record time. Sounds great, but in practice it's irrelevant.

Used about five quarts of Mobil 1 5w-40 synthetic with a K&N HP-2009 filter. Pretty much the same as a Mobil 1 filter with a nut welded on the bottom... and a buck cheaper.

Shoulda kept the hat on...

  • hey, i just changed my oil today, did it as per sandsmuseum instructions and it said uses about 4.75 Quarts of oil, i bought the Motul oil from sector111, did the math and its equal to about 4.5 Liter, so it pour it in, and check the oil level it seems to be way too high, did i over filled it or something?
