  • I live in America as well, and you are VERY naive to think that nothing is built over our ancestors.

  • I have heard a lot of stories about builders finding bones of native americans buried beneath their constructions

  • Supposedly, the super-volcanic event took place in 1258/59...and while that incident produced a lot of ash, some researchers claim that its effect on global temperature was unexpectedly minor.

    Personally, I'd suspect an epidemic (possibly related to a famine) for the mass deaths rather than starvation or complications therefrom.

  • @Pentan797 thanks for your reply :)

  • @WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT1 I've heard that story before! Very spooky... but I love spooky :)

  • Those unfortunate people probably believed the Apocalypse was upon them!

  • There was a particularly severe famine in 1235

    At Amers Court, in the City of London there has long been a story of an apparition of a dog like shape slithering along a wall. At the old Newgate Prison which existed between 1194 and 1904 during this famine, it is said that conditions were so bad the inmates resorted to cannibalism and a spectral hound devoured them as revenge. Because of word limitation I can't recite it all here, but the story certainly makes macabre reading;

  • ehh... she should smile when talking about famine... =_=

  • that was brilliant, very interesting, i used to work at Spitalfields Market (London) - it is a great place - well worth visiting - especially on a Sunday

  • Famines, especially when caused by climatic changes, can last years. But judging by the size of the mass graves, it does seem more likely that disease killed these people. Disease kills more rapidly than famine. Already weakened by famine, these people would have been even more susceptible to it.

  • I don't believe those people died from famine caused by a volcano in the tropics ( 5 - 10% of the pop "over 3-4 years." A famine might last one year, not 4. Also, in famine, children starve first and in greater numbers.

    Perhaps it was a viral plague.
