I've seen guys take deadlift a shit load of weights... but cant do a single pull up

Awesome! Alexander Zass trained with a similar method. He started off with saw dust filled bag and every week he scooped out a scoop of sawdust and added a scoop of sand untill the whole bag was finally filled with sand. Anyway, great work!

Sandbag lifting is one of the most incredible workouts for functional strength. Simple and easy to make, but tough fun training

This "functional strength" thing has been beaten to death.
If you can squat, deadlift, bench press, shoulder press and row a lot of weight you're strong.
Don't tell me squats and deads don't build functional strength for everyday.
Ever seen a guy deadlifting a serious amount of weight having trouble with anything?

Lifting sand bags as shown certainly makes for a demanding workout and will undoubtably increase functional strength. But it has more carry over effect for wrestlers, martial arts, UFC, and such than wightlifters.
For most people the difficulty of balancing the shifting load and maneuvering it into liftable positions will make training frustrating. Also it will be more difficult to monitor progress because it will be uncertain whether difficulty is due to the weight of the load or its balance.
