In the opening match of the 1987 Greater Los Angeles Open, Pete McCordic would end a long drought of perfect games on ABC's Pro Bowlers Tour telecasts and shoot 300 to win $100,000. He faces Wayne Webb, who bowls a pretty good game himself. Part 2 of 2.

  • I was happy for McCordic as well as Chris Schenkel. He finally got to witness a 300 game, after ABC sent him away covering other assignments during the other 300 games.

  • I have bowled next to Pete McCordic for two years in a scratch league on Wednesday's and this guy still has it. A machine. Still carries 200+ on sport. Amazing.

  • Back then I worked Saturdays, when the PBA was on TV. My wife would tape the shows and I'd watch them in the evening, after work. For whatever reason she failed to record this one and I missed Pete McCordic's 300. It would have been the first 300 that I ever watched. This was well before youtube, of course. Needless to say, I was angry. Today I finally got to watch that game. Thanks for posting.

  • i'm 11 and my highest is 183

guess i'm not that far away, no?

  • @ 5:12 the roll in question and @ 5:14 Three words

  • That's gotta be alot of pressure to go through. It's alot of nerves on the human body, knowing you're only pins away from a 300 game & money's at stake too. After about 6 strikes in a game, my hands will start to get jittery, then the 7th frame most of the time, is when i'll mess up. Pete stayed focused & even then, the nerves & your hands will start to sweat from nervousness. Mine will. Maybe one day i'll see a 300 game. Highest i've ever bowled is a 224 once.

  • @BeeDoubleUDee good observation. i think he might've moved a board or two left on the approach for the 12th one. he def. pulled the ball a pinch. the 11th strike was his best shot.

  • @BrownWolverine Winner was Mats Karlsson of Sweden, who defeated McCordic in the following match and eventually beat Ricky Corona in the final.

Webb and McCordic were the only two real name players in the field on this day, which was how the 1987 tour had been going up to that point.

McCordic would eventually break through and win two events in 1988.

  • That's great when that last ball hits the lane, the crowd goes wild. I never missed a week of ABC's PBA telecasts! Gives me the chills watching this....Great post!

  • As much as he was shaking, the purity of that 11th shot is what has stayed with me all these years. The 12th was obviously inside and fast. Did he make the adjustment because he knew his reaction under pressure? Or did he get away with one? I prefer to think he knew the adrenaline was up and he adjusted. Despite being a non winner at the time, he was a very disciplined and practised player. I think he had a moment of clarity and made a great (not to mention gutsy) adjustment.
