Part one of John Dear speaking on nonviolence. With quotes from Martin Luther King, "Mahatma" Gandhi, Dorothy Day, and the Berrigan brothers, Jesuit priest John Dear ( http://www.johndear.org ) provides a rousing and enlightening look at nonviolent philosophy. With stories from his own life he shows how one can put these principles into practice.

  • John Dear was recently nominated by Archbishop Desmond Tutu for the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize. He is a hero to many of us.

  • He is very much a hero to me.

  • @hopkins4545 which means that what he says is false? Unless you refrain from masturbation and are respectful what fredpreuss said is inaccurate? The truth of a statement isn't a function of its origin. Stop being so sensitive and try growing up. Wow-you don't masturbate-at all? You're either lying to us or really repressed.

  • Thanks for this. His book, America, Fascism, And God: Sermons from a Heretical Preacher, is highly recommended.

  • Thiank you, John. We need many like you. You speak for many. Keep up the good work. We cannot be human when we take the human out of our actions.

  • @fredpreuss You're a disrespectful jerkoff.

  • nonviolence will never work

  • No, I wasn't abused. I've listened to his message. I have other sources for anarchist/socialist propaganda that don't involve organizations disprortionately staffed by child molesters. He's obviously a member of the growing gay Jesuit community. What is it with gays and religion? Does it say somewhere in the bible "Jesus loves drag"?

  • Listen to his message...

  • Were you abused?

  • Some of the most staunchly committed pacifists and activists for the underdog that I have ever met are Jesuits. But as Father says here, you get in trouble even with other priests when you take a risk to speak out on these things. It is worth the risk.
