@Supernova1095 Ah, there's a few of us in The Bronx, too. And in the San Francisco area. I grew up with this one in the Bronx and Manhattan. My Uncle loved this one, as did we all. My mother's family was from Limerick and grew up around the time this was happening. Another Uncle was from Kerry and knew the fellows from Knockanure.

Beautiful Song. My parents from Kerry played this song for us kids. I just heard it now as I sit in our apartment. There must be an Irish music aficianado somewhere out there in Astoria, Queens, NY

peggy sweeney sings a better version and was asked specifily to make the recording by sean mccarthy himself on his death bed....

the original version.... and she has a much better voice too.... sean mccarthy is the man who wroet the song.... she has sang his songs for the last 30 year.... she knows all about the history of the songs and has a dvd to show places and footage of sean himself...

I look forward to hearing the original version, when will you have it posted,
I have given credit to Sean McCarthy at the start of the video and comments top right.
As for a better voice, well , everybody sings differently and it's a matter of choice.
Not much wrong with Paddy's version here though.
