I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (October 2), we sang this as the opening hymn. I also played it as the Hymn of the Day at a local Lutheran Church that I filled in at. It is #796 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship. I just saw on another post that this was sung at Gen. Robert E. Lee's funeral. His men remembered that this was his favorite hymn.

Contend for the Faith = stand up for the cause of the conservative institutionals, Truth Magazine = defend the truth of non copperation, seek the old paths of one cup and no sunday school, Firm Foundation - stand up for the Firm Foundation of sinners being amenable to Matthew 19:9 - you know, Roy Deaver doctrine...Don't forget to check out the Restoration Review to see how far some will depart from the faith like Leroy Garrett, the long time apostate heretic long deisfellowshipped..

Most of the time ( but not always ) its the radical conservatives who have prophetic names to their papers - but nowadays the liberals are just as bad in misappropriating scriptures. My advice - quit reading the papers and just read the Bible - thats all we need anyway!

have you ever wondered that many churches of Christ sing songs in worship of a religious paper - How Firm a Foundation, Contend for the faith, Walk in the Truth, Seek the Old Paths.....too often times, religious editors publish papers with a prphetic ring to their names - I wonder why? Watchman what of the night - ever heard of that one - the Oklahoma Christian College Library kicked that paper out because they thought it was a Jehhovah's Witness paper! LOL
