The Jo Whiley Music Show - Ep. 8 Performers
The Horrors
The formation of The Horrors shyly began in the early 2000s when the members' musical interests and habits began to draw them into the same circle.
In 2005, Rhys Webb, Faris Badwan, Tom Cowan, Joshua Hayward and Joe Spurgeon formed a band that was centred on the underground club Junkclub, where they entertained visitors with their punk covers.
But it wasn't until the release of their debut single 'Sheena Is a Parasite' that The Horrors began to creep into the public eye. Before long, the band released a second single 'Death at the Chapel' and grazed the cover of the New Musical Express (NME). The band established itself as one-to-watch in 2007 with their appearance on stage at the NME Awards Indie Rock Tour and the release of their debut album Strange House, for which they went on a world tour.
Their second album Primary Colours was better received than the first while their 2011 album Skying soared over it by 20 spots, peaking at No.5 in the UK Charts.
