Michelle Tennant Nicholson won the Campground Cookout Contest held by the State Parks http://www.ParksByNature.com and in this video demonstrates the winning recipe for the State Parks and her regular YouTube fans who have been following her personal weight loss efforts in 2011 here at http://www.FastFoodFromTheFarmersMarket.com (feel free to subscribe too)! This is a great recipe for anyone who camps and is especially great for bachelors or busy families looking for a quick and inexpensive meal. Michelle spent $14 for a family of four.
Here's a photo of the finished meal http://michelletennant.wordpress.com/2011/09/07/add-fire-to-your-pr/
Here's the recipe per packet:
(Oh! The best part is it's easy cleanup at the camp -- after eating out of the foil, pack it in your trashbag and pack it out!)
This is also great for breakfast while camping.
1/4 cup meat or protein source (sausage, shrimp, beans, etc)
1/4 cup starch (corn, potatoes, peas, root veggies, etc)
1/4 cup veggies (peppers, onions, mushrooms, squash, greens, etc)
Steak or poultry seasoning (seasonall, cajun, garlic salt, Spike, etc -- any seasoning you'd put on your meat before grilling)
Fresh herbs like rosemary (optional)
Oil or pat of butter (optional)
Foil squares
This is a great recipe for the kids to help with too! They're more likely to eat what they help cook. Put oil, meat, starch and veggies in a foil packet. Sprinkle with seasoning or fresh herbs. Fold down and create a tent. Fold sides. Cook on fire for 30 minutes to one hour. Check frequently to not burn the bottom. When you open your foil tent, be careful to not burn yourself as steam from the food will escape. So don't forget to pack something to touch hot foil when camping! Note: To slow cook the packets, simply place them around the fire and turn toward fire about every 10 minutes. If you get rained out or if you're a bachelor, this recipe is great on the grill or in the stove so simply cook for 30 minutes to an hour on 400 degrees temperature testing your meat and potatoes to desired temperature. Be creative! Mix and match all your favorite ingredients. Let your kids help choose their favorite meat, starch and veggie too so they can participate in the fun. (Michelle bought 4 sausages, 1 package of frozen corn, 1 package mixed frozen peppers and onions and 1 package diced potatoes seasoned with garlic and salt. It made 6-7 packets total so can actually feed more than 4 ... or 2 hungry men LOL)
Share your mix and matches here so we can get ideas for our next camping trip too!
Nice! Sorry, I just realised you said all this in the beginning of your video. I think I must have had a vague moment.
Miss Dairy Princess! Love it.

No worries. It's useful for those who just want to read the recipe and get going. Not everyone will want to sit through my weekly rants. :-) LOL!

Congratulations! Did they award you any sort of prize? (I'm picturing a trophy of a person grilling a sausage over a campfire...)
