The paint has been delaminating on my girlfriends 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse for quite some time. We submitted the problem to Mitsubishi as a manufacturers defect and asked them to repair it. We heard back from Mitsubishi today and they are denying warranty coverage.

The vehicle is out of warranty but problems this severe do not surface overnight. It is our contention that this flaw was created the day the vehicle was painted and it is just now becoming bad enough to surface, and spread relatively quickly.

Vehicle has roughly 70K miles, and is just turning 5 years old. It's not even paid off yet. This problem did not develop overnight, in fact, I'm sure it developed way before we even saw it happening, well within the terms of Mitsubishi's warranty.

We've seen several eclipses of the same age exhibiting the same problems. If you or a friend have an eclipse or other mitsubishi that is around the same age and it's doing the same thing, please post a video response and/or e-mail your pictures to the address at the end of the movie. Hopefully, with numbers, we can make Mitsubishi realize the gravity of this manufacturers defect.

If they won't cover this under the terms of their warranty then the value of making this problem known to potential buyers could mean just as much to us, as current owners.

  • Just a comment for those of you out there who claim this car was not cared for - check out my other channel under rjnedved - see the corvette in there? Or go to my website, rjnmotorsports(dot)com - see the super clean hummer? This eclipse was cared for the same way - the exact reason I took the time to post this video. Further, I got a letter today regarding a class action settlement against Mitsu for this exact problem.. So take your uninformed comments elsewhere, please.

  • Maybe if you put some wax on it and not park it in the sun for all hrs of the day, plus its an eclipse there expensive to paint fix etc. maybe you should have bought some cheap junk honda

  • It's from washing your car when its hot, or washing it in the sun. You all that are suing Mitsubishi are idiots and don't know how to take care of your cars.

  • @ROCKTHEMICDJ Your a idiot Honda can Engineer a far better car then Mitsubishi....

  • Im a detailer and i drive a 2006 Eclipse (Black). My Car started doing this. Its a paint defect from Mitsubishi, I keep Polish and Wax/Sealer on my car all year round. However my car started fading on the A-Pillar about a month ago. The back breaking point is my car is just out of warranty. Its sad Mitsubishi won't cover this problem or use better paint. The car will be paid off and sold with in the year. After I hit up Maaco and let the fix the faded/peeling A-piller.

  • my car eclipse is ten years old now and has perfect paint.

  • guys this is a mitsubishi problem, if you buy one with paint defects like i did, replace the hood with carbon fiber, and repaint the roof and trunk. The car will look awesome and that is truly where the paint problems are, the rest of the car does not peel easily. Next, buy a car cover and there you go, no paint problems

  • Let the paint keep going and you can call it michael jackson

  • I have an 02 Galant. Bought it brand new and have taken really good care of the car. I religiously washed and waxed the car as well as parking it in our garage and my delamination also started about the 5 year mark. It looks absolutely awful now and don't really have $1500 to get it painted. My dash also has a big crack across the middle that I have covered with a mat. I will also be posting a video of my car to increase exposure to their crappy products.
