These are wild deer that live in a natural environment.

Ohio is noted for its large deer. Shown are a few of the antler sheds collected just on a portion of one farm. Some are quite large with anomalous points with up to around 20 tines.

Also shown is a monster buck with at least 10-tine antlers. He demonstrates rutting behavior -chasing a doe and holding his head up in a lip curl. I was quite close to him when I made the recording, but he didn't pay too much attention to me. At the end of the tape, after he chased a doe, another large buck appeared.

** Some of the world's largest bucks live in Ohio. Some of its world champion bucks have Boone and Crockett scores of over 300 points. Ohio's Beatty Buck may be the (or among the) largest ever taken by a hunter. That title of the largest whitetail, ever, in the record books belongs to the "Missouri Monarch," a 333-7/8 buck found dead on the side of a road in 1982 near St. Louis. In second place is the legendary "Hole in the Horn," found dead in Ohio in 1940, however, many whitetail experts think that it is actually the largest set of whitetail deer antlers in history. It may be the most famous whitetail known.

The male white-tailed deer, or buck (Odocoileus virginianus - normally called the whitetail), can weigh up to around 500 pounds http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache:7cLce5HsdasJ:espn.go.com/outdoors/huntin...
and the female up to 175 pounds. Males of one year or older have antlers. Young bucks with very small antlers are called button bucks. When the antlers begin to grow in the late spring, they are covered with a very vascular tissue known as velvet or moss. This drops off later. The Boone & Crockett scoring system is used to rate antlers or racks. Bucks shed their antlers at the end of breeding season (rut). Some female deer also have antlers. The piebald or white deer, a deer having more white than normal but not an albino, is very rare.

Deer have an amazing assortment of communicative signs. Approximately 100 different vocalizations have been recorded, such as tending grunts, dominant grunts, bleats, and many others. They make extensive use of sign language. The whitetail is found throughout most of the U.S., southern Canada, Central America, and in the northern portions of South America. It is a generalist, which can adapt to a wide variety of habitats, including woodland, open savanna, and even sage areas.

  • Just find

  • I must say fascinating video, I like in Maine and Im hoping they will be shedding soon. Can I get you take on it?

  • Around here they generally shed from January-March, but with some variation. Sometimes they drop their antlers in places where they jump, such as near fences.

  • ya here in wisconsin theyll shed from december till april...i saw a nice 9 point buck.. dont know if its still got its racks.. any tips for finding sheds, its illegal here to feed the deer, so wat can i do?? ive checked all their paths and resting points like seven times, but ive had no luck

  • Sometimes you can find them in places where the deer jump, such as near fencing. When they land sometimes their antlers fall off.

  • all deer in order to count a point the tine has to be at least 1 inch long according to b&c so if its not an inch its not a point nice sheds but not an eighteen twenty pointer.

  • they changed it the tine has to be 1 inch long, not if you can hang a ring on it.

  • I'm jealous D:

  • @cherryblossoms32 you find the sheds on the southern slopes becuase thats where the sun shines the longest if your in michigan

  • @dasexybeastboi I live in Michign and my brother and I have done a lot of shed hunting and we never find them in the woods, along fences, or any where you would think to find them. We always find them in open fields, usually on southern facing slopes, i don't know why but thats where they always are

  • Many miles of walking to find antler sheds.

  • damn right ohio is noted for its large deer!
