  • i was thinking, the point of that is so a pursuing jet would overshoot it right? but it takes so long to recover and regain speed after that, wouldnt the other jet be able to finish the loop and and have a good shot at the raptor as it is regaining itself?

i have no expertise on the matter, so dont criticize if im completely wrong, just my thoughts. if there are any people out there who knows better, please explain.

  • no, the point of doing that is to impress congressmen so they'll approve your multibillion dollar acquisition program, even though the F-16 already rules the skies and modern war is fought by guerrillas can take out a squad of U.S. infantrymen with a $20 IED.

  • It's called technology, staying ahead of the enemy, stealth, manuverability. I don't deny that things like that happen, but I imagine it's very difficult for the soldiers when the "rules of engagement" has it where they can't defend themselves. That's how I feel.

  • Pilots make decisions on the circumstances. If there are multiple enemies, then I imagine he wouldn't do this manuver. If it's a single enemy then It would be something I would want to use. :)

  • @r00sh no need for that ability anyways. now days missles are sent from 20 miles away. no need for dogfighting.

  • @jaylemeux The F-16 is pretty capable but it doesn't "rule the skies." You sound like you don't know what you're talking about. Many nations have more capable aircraft, especially when F-16 airframes are nearing the end of their serviceable lifespan.

  • well i will go ahead say one of the reasons for this ability is so that the aircraft can perform a tighter scissors manuever without losing power. this aircraft is the only one in the world that can defy most all of the laws of physics and still not lose any power or stall out. the aircraft has thrust vectoring which means the exhaust nozzles will move up and down with the elevators, this is the main thing that keeps the aircraft from stalling when in a tight turn like this.

  • The thing is that there has not yet taken place a dogfight between fighters with these capabilities. Personally I think this is useless in a dogfight; tight turning while being able to keep high speed is a keyfactor. Otherwise you are a sitting duck. But on a show it is fancy!

  • I'm sure that this is far from what its capable of. It'd be interesting to see how good it is without TVC. Pure aerodynamic maneuverability. How good would it be against say an F-15

  • @lankygiant16 B-2s stealth is also more wide-band with capability to defeat L-band and even VHF frequencies due to its size according to dr. Karlo Kopp.

  • @OlderG0ds imma crew chief on f-22 and ive seen and talked to people who work on the B-2, been in the cockpits, talked to the pilots. so i know what im talkin bout

  • I find it a little hard to believe, but not saying you're lying that you work on both the F-22 and B-2 lol.

But no I do not. I'm just very interested in aviation. My dad was a jet mechanic in the USMC for 20+ years so it's kinda rubbed off on me

  • @OlderG0ds thats right, cuz you work on 22's right? and have worked beside the B-2 and have been inside both. right?? let me tell you, i have. And yes, the B-2 has a smaller RCS. Simply because it has less to bounce the radar back with. i.e. less angles...no vertical stabs, no angled intakes, and so on.

  • No that's incorrect my friend. F-22 has a newer generation of stealth technology, and is the stealthiest plane, the RCS is the size of a marble. B-2 RCS is size of a golf ball.
