Ski Hawaii Mauna Kea Big Island

Is the snow powder or mostly ice?

@SlyWhiteSheep Powder if you go right after it snows. then it gets sticky the next day and some times its icy late in the afternoon on the shaded slopes. but even if it ices over, because of the high altitude, when the sun comes out it actually gets real nice again.

I was going to ask, where do you guys get the ski/snowboard from? I don't remember seeing a ski shop on the big island lol

Those are Alpine skiis! I know, I live in Montana and I use them for Xcountry, not downhill! Intense!

@jmdenali That is all we had to use, and if I am not wrong, those skis are at least 30 years old. good fun.

You did a great job! I sure would not try it with mine!... I think it's awesome to have snow in the tropics! I was born in Cuba, and all we got was a little ice in the winter.

i wish i had skis. they should really add a lodge w/a lift and everything. ^^
