The battle waged by health experts to convince young people in particular about the dangers of tanning appears to be a losing one. Clare Oliver, a young woman whose most precious wish is to live long enough to see her 26th birthday next weekend, offers heartfelt advice on the dangers of a deadly tan.

  • If the sun is so dangerous, how did humans survive for the last 350,000 years on planet Earth? Why would humans evolve a mechanism for generating Vitamin D from sunlight if we weren't supposed to be exposed to sunlight in the first place? Tanning in moderation is not dangerous! Dermatologists even recommend that victims of psoriasis and eczema tan a reasonable amount!

  • @ColibriAnna08 Tanning is dangerous and UV treatment of psoriasis and eczema is professionally managed and not the only method of treatment.

  • I tell you one thing. The chief exectutive guy at the Body Bronze place is a red head and redheads do not tan, they burn. Idiocy all round. Very sad and very stupid.

  • RIP Clare, This story made me feel very sad. Miss you, Will never forget about you. Clare will live on in our hearts.

  • @ColibriAnna08 but u cant be in a tanning bed for hours...its like the sun being right on top of you...UVA and UVB rays can kill you, obvioulsy cause thats how the girl in the video died...its good to get some sun,but not to be basking in it every second...are you really that stupid to even make that comment?

  • R.I.P clare

    god bless her......so sad :'(

  • @ColibriAnna08 The reality is that all sun exposure increases the likelihood of skin cancer. Vitamin D is one thing, but managing exposure to radiation is another. People with tans can have low Vitamin D because the sun has damaged their skin's ability to produce the Vitamin. Lastly, there are countless extinct species which also developed under the sun.

  • Heartbreaking. Some people will do anything for the price of "beauty".

  • Wow, I used to think that tanning was healthy if done in moderation, but I'll never go back. I would only go once a week. My aunt died of melanoma at 24. This poor girl died early. I just turned 23. I have so many goals and dreams I want to achieve. I'm never going back again!

  • Skin cancer doesn't run in the family. My mom was disappointing with her appearance and tanned. She died of melanoma. I was 9

  • R.I.P. Clare Oliver God Bless.

People should heed the warnings, tbf. It's their choice, but the reality is you need to be comfortable in your own skin...there's so much emphasis today on being brown or having a tan, especially in the media and magazines. And worse this is hitting young girls who are frequenting these tanning places without the knowledge of the implications of doing it. If anything this is what needs to be put out in the media more to prevent such needless deaths of youngs girls.
