CSX train V155-14 heading to the OUC plant in Orlando on 5-14-09 around 4:30pm. CW44AC 398 is leading ex-CR SD70AC 4586 and ES44DC 5314. You'll hear several flat-spotted wheels on those OUCX hoppers.
How do those wheels on those freight wagons get flat like that? Is it the abuse from them hitting the diamond interlocker at fast speeds or is it the skidding on the tracks from intense braking & heat?

My understanding is that it is due to skidding due to locked brakes. The rails take a lot more beating at the diamonds than the wheels.
