My friend Bob and I made a visit to this deserted but not forgotten Manteno State Hospital over the summer of 2009. The Manteno State Hospital opened in the 1920s and officially closed in 1985.
There is a lot of history in this mental hospital and there are plenty of websites and video clips from You Tube dedicated to this infamous hospital. Also it is reputed to be haunted, as you will see in this clip there appears to be a ghostly image of a nurse or patient in one of the photos I took in one of the decaying vestibules. See if you can spot it.

  • That's eerie.

  • Me too. and I always look for ghost but never find one. I guess ghosts only appear when they want to.

  • When we went there almost 2 years ago most of the doors were open and one can go in but we didn't because we felt it was unsafe and to be honest quite creepy. We just stood in front of the doorway and just took pictures and videos. Also there were others there doing the same thing we were doing. I guess they locked it all up recently to prevent curiosity seekers and ghost hunters from going in and endangering themselves.

  • Where exactly is the Paint House located on the grounds?

  • @SpiritOrSupernatural

actually it's part of the many buildings that is still being used it's more of a storage building. It is not part of any of the crumbling buildings beyond the chain linked fence.

  • this is beyond horrible

  • Ok stalker lol. Ill take your advice.

  • @northvilletunnels I think you are angry because you're off your meds? Pleasant, well adjusted people don't project their fears onto other people. Just trying to help you out here.

Anyway, get well soon. And stay off message boards, junior! People will always call you out when you act abnormally.

  • @FaganRoberts So angry, so angry.

  • @northvilletunnels C'mon, you can do better than that! I expected more than such stock and trade responses. I mean, a Nervous Norman calling people a stalker and when you get called out on it that's all you can come up with in response? Getting a bit defensive now are we? LOL! I call psychological projection. What say you?

  • @FaganRoberts @FaganRoberts nah, I don't think your experience applies to me. looks like you are coming a little unraveled there chum. Why so sensitive? Hitting a little to close to home I suppose.

  • @northvilletunnels Delusional. Continue guidance from your shrink.

Get well soon, me friend. It gets better, I promise.

  • @FaganRoberts Nah, I think I got it right.

  • @northvilletunnels Looks quite normal to me. Perhaps you are projecting your irrational fears onto others? Please consult your psychiatrist immediately. You may need some help.
