ANGOLA IN THE FRAME
War artist John Keane documents Angola's recovery from long years of civil war.

A 52 minute documentary

John Keane's vivid and politically charged paintings have captured the complex realities of war and conflict for many years, most famously as Britain's official artist during the Gulf war of 1990-91. In Angola in the Frame we follow his recent journey to Angola, and for over a year in his studio, as he creates new work on the country's recovery after 30 years of civil war. The film weaves together the making of his paintings with the powerful stories of the people he meets. He paints portraits, for example, of two brothers who were kidnapped and forced to fight as child soldiers --on opposing sides to each other.

The film is both an intimate portrait of an artist at work, and of a country redefining its future.
