So this is a recent recording of my Timpani Etude. It figures that my best run was with distractions (people saying bye, someone almost walking in front of the camera..) Oh well though.

Slight tempo fluctuation at the beginning, with the low drum being a bit out of pitch. These aren't my drums (another school's actually) and their guages can't be moved close enough to be set to the EXACT pitch, which is unfortunate). As always, leave some comments and let me know what you think.

  • haha. I oqned you at area. lol. just playin man. you'll for sure get in next year.

  • What's sad is I don't even know who this is that pwned me. :(

  • tempo is way to fast.

dynamic should be mf all the way through.

watch where you hit the drum

    good luck at area.

  • Eh, I was just at 108. 104 is the maximum. It was fine until I accidently rushed at the beginning.

As for the dynamic, sure it's marked mf, but if a piece is marked all at one dynamic, you don't play JUST that dynamic. That's just playing unmusically. Fluctutions and stresed musical ideas will result in the dynamic changing slightly, within the RANGE of mf.

And as for playing areas.... I really don't see the problem. I wasn't ever too close to the center, and all tones were clear.

  • i play alto sax. but dang that was very nice. i'm going to area on jan. 10th. how bout u?

    i'm sure you are.

  • Thanks man. Yeah I'm going. The drive to midland, or odessa, (wherever it is, it's TOO far) should be fun.

    Good luck to you though.

  • you know, i've never really heard or even seen a timpani before now, and i think...

    It's pretty COOL!

  • that rene guy has no idea what he's talkn about dude you did really good trust me

  • haha you can't really blame bad pitches on gauges man my timpani's gauges have tape on them and you have to right the notes on them but the thing is during marching season I'm always going from inside to outside so the notes are always changing so you just have to adjust, you did pretty good though

  • This was by far the easiest piece (to me) Shame we didnt have to play the second page. That was the best part..

    Nice work tho.

  • 2nd triple - center of the drum.

judges want what the music says.

  • hehei like the way u muffle the timpani at the end... its like a wave
