Timothy Dalton in "Wuthering Heights"

Why do people try to compare twilight to Wuthering Heights? Twilight can't compare, Bronte was a genius.
Twilight = just another teen love story where a dumb chick leaves everything behind for a guy. In essence that's what it is, with a few special effects added to make it interesting.
Wuthering Heights = A timeless captivating love story. The characters are dark and complex. Not the least bit sugarcoated, it leaves an impression that will not be easily forgotten.

@teufelstaub Oya,it's fine now,and was a loooong time ago.Matter of fact, saw him at our 40 yr class reunion this past summer for first time in about 30+ yrs.I'm no Cathy, and,he sure as H is no Heathcliff any more.

@crowleysridgegirl Ooooooooowww.Tempestuous at best,I'd imagine....but loads of good stories once the trauma's over,right?Hope all is better now.Cheers!

@teufelstaub PS and the first of those happened to be high school sweetheart, who, along with the rest of my classmates from English class, saw this with me for the first time.He and I fancied ourselves "Cathy and Heathcliff." Little did I know that,in a couple years or less, that fantasy would be pretty much acted out in life.!!!

@teufelstaub oooooyeah. And not just that,I picked a couple of them.(maybe more.) don't stop to think too much about that, these days, now that I have gained some more sense (at the expense of my heart of course.)

fantastic film, a tragic romance. Timothy Dalton was at his best in this film.
forget James Bond,he just didn't have the same Charisma .

Is it just me,or do you later realize all the men you found utterly magnetic as a teenager would have been the worst possible mates?

Timothy Dalton was THE Heathcliff of my teen imagination!

@RoadRunnerDrummerJD People are sarcastic assholes on internet comment boards, Roadrunner. Period. It's an easy and safe way to feel powerful.
-
@imasinnerimasaint if you're going to answer my question, don't start the answer with some bullshit. say the answer, and the answer only.
-
@RoadRunnerDrummerJD If you couldn't be bothered to figure it why bother asking? Catherine, the love of his life, died. She was very ill, and the maid shook her head to confirm that she was no longer alive.
That gorgeous dark hair against the green velvet coat is striking. Add in those deep green eyes and I am surprised all the girls in the county weren't camped out at Wuthering Heights.
You might enjoy The Umbrella's of Cherbourg (Les Parapluies de Cherbourg) with Catherine Deneuve, 1964. The score is by Michel Legrand also and is wonderful, even in French. This film is one of my all-time faves. I highly recommend it.

You are so right about the hair/green coat/ eyes!*sigh* You bet they did! The girls nearly stormed the stage in his RADA days, if you are to believe John Rhys-Davies... *g*
Thanks for the recommendation, I will check it out!

Ok am I the only one who thinks the kid was Heathcliff's? That was never really "clarified" but I've thought that for years.

I believe that, too, but only in relation to the film. I think it's most obvious in the scene where the servant Joseph tells Heathcliff that Cathy is with child and that Edgar is still waiting to see the colour of his eyes - or something like that.
This, Edgar's totally surprised reaction to the news of Cathy's pregnancy and Isabella mocking him when they are quarreling about Heathcliff("At least I give him something you've not known...")are all indications, in my opinion.
