The syrup you mention is called "King Syrup". it is indigenous t oLancaster county, PA. It has a picture of a lion on the tin. I grew up with this stuff, being a native of Amish country

Just web search Amish & Shoo Fly Pies. They are an Amish tradition BUT the texture is gooey, almost like a pecan pie but no pecans lol.
I used to have a legit Amish recipe that vanished (would be delighted to share-also wish I still had it lol). The major difference is that Old Order Amish don't use molasses-they use a syrup that is closest to Dark Corn Syrup. It's why the real ones I have had always had a different/better taste. Vanilla Pie is similar--you might want to look!
