The movie "Super Size Me" by Morgan Spurlock inspired this time lapse video. I cooked up some homemade fries and put them head-to-head in a time lapse battle with McDonald's French Fries. Who will last the longest?

This was shot with a Sony VX2100 Mini DV video camera in "interval record" mode. The camera shot a half second of video every 10 minutes. I then used Final Cut Pro to edit the video.

The song is "Dueces Wild Alt" from the Studiocutz Music Library.

The clip from "Super Size Me" is used under the "fair use" copyright law.

Transcript: "I'm sure many of you have heard of the movie "Supersize Me". It inspired me to do a little experiment in my time lapse studio. In the movie, they show how McDonald's Fries break down over time compared to fries from a regular restaurant. I decided to cook my own French Fries and set-up a time lapse to see if McDonald's fries would break down any differently than homemade fries.

At first, the homemade French fries started to dry out at a quicker rate. The oil soaked into the homemade paper packaging I made. But at the one month mark the fries stopped changing. Neither pack of fries rotted or got moldy. They just dried out. The homemade fries did shrivel up a little more. I shot for two more months and noticed no more changing.

That's why I'm declaring McDonald's Fries the winner -- barely. If you consider how much better the McDonald's fries tasted than my own fries though. McDonald's was the really big winner. McDonald's for the win!!!"

  • So, Mc`Donalds fries have the secret of the eternal youth?

  • @gonzaloNMF I'm just going to start eating straight preservatives to keep myself youthful.

  • it means mcdonals fries are harder to be digested in you

  • @whytellmewhy Does that mean you get to enjoy the flavor longer?

  • Five Guys owns all.

  • @SnovvVilliers They just opened a new Five Guys near my house.

  • @MorroccoSurrogate Interesting. I'm going to have to try that. Thanks.

  • @AgileHProductions If you fry them at a low enough temperature that they cook all the way through, they'll be limp, and if you fry them at a high enough temperature that the outside crisps, the inside will still be raw. If you try to cook them all the way through at a temperature high enough to crisp them, they'll burn.

  • @CJBegnaud Commitment is good. Results are better. I was hoping for something more dramatic. I might reshoot it with a change in a variable or two.

  • @brynmag Definitely much cheaper and easier to just watch mine. I have two good ones shooting right now. A slice of orange and a cherry tomato.
