  • I'm sorry, but it's not fast.

I know that the accestimes ar far better, but my PC boots up in the exact same time!

I have a Samsung F1 320GB as boot disk. The WIndows-bar always goes 2 or 3 times, after which i can see the desktop. I will buy another 320GB F1, and put those in RAID-0 for my Program files. Later, I'll buy 2X Mtron 16GB vor my OS (XP+Vista)

  • Was it a modern HDD or a wax cylinder?

  • you just dont no how to care for it or you have a shit ssd

  • @johnnyfast ;; That is because your SSD uses the Jmicron controller, which is known for those lockup issues. Modern quality SSDs do not have this issue.

Go with Indilinx or the Intel controller in an SSD.

  • the SSD format is sitll under the test, so dont blame it yet, in a couple of years it will be much cheaper + faster than now.

  • raid5 is just horrible in writes and with motherboards controller and reads arent that good eighter. Good ssd disks have so small latensy that you cant fix that with anynumber of old hdd:s. Lets say drive has 10ms latensy compared to 0.1 you might see on ssd. with 10 000 files (if not fragmented you have to wait 100s compared to 1second with ssd. This is just wating time before transfere (no transfers made). This is something spinning disk can never fix.

  • It has a lot to do with drivers as well. Nvidia display drivers for instance sabotage users' boot time speed, or at least mine...

  • True, but you can buy 3 hard drives and connect them in RAID 5 for half the price of an SSD drive.

  • yes i totally agree been looking for some one to make that comment

  • Interesting how NONE of the SSD tests show a real world multi-tasking environment.

I have an OCZ SSD 64 and it totally fails, as soon as my PC is doing 2 or more read/write multi tasks I get horrendous lock ups. It is going back to the shop as unfit for purpose.

SSD is a one trick (read speed) pony.

  • Nice, I have heard about the new raptor, it will be great, maybe the read/write performance, sure not the access time, sure not the IOPS.

In order to be faster than an SSD an HDD must have an instantly access time, and this is not possible, becaus of the spinning plate and all the heads to moove.

In order to be faster than an SSD you have to know that SSD factory plan to make a single SSD with more than 2'000 MB/s in 4 years.

  • IF You Wan The BEST!!! Startup time, then you should use Sata SSD or 20000 Rpm Raptor or I-ram.I-Ram Fastest for now.

20000 Rmp Raptor owner said, in future there will be a Raptor that is faster than this SSD
