Performers: Janna Baty (voice), Daniel Curtis (piano)
Text Author: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Composer: Snookimichev

________________

This "lied" was composed for my music class a year ago (i.e., Spring 2009). I posted the video to show my family and some friends. The pianist made a few mistakes, and the singer tried to change my music a bit (due to my own failure to place some accented syllables at the down beats).
If you want to criticize anything, PLEASE refrain from criticizing the two performers. They did their best, although very little time was given to them. Also, it's unlikely that they will find my page and read your comments about them. If you want to criticize me, please do. I would like to hear it.

*If you don't know, 'Lied' is a German word for 'song.'

Lyrics: An die Entfernte
...
... So hab ich wirklich dich verloren?
... Bist du, o Schöne, mir entfloh'n?
... Noch klingt in den gewohnten Ohren
... Ein jedes Wort, ein jeder Ton.
...
... So wie des Wandrers Blick am Morgen
... Vergebens in die Lüfte dringt,
... Wenn, in dem blauen Raum verborgen,
... Hoch über ihm die Lerche singt:
...
... So dringet ängstlich hin und wieder
... Durch Feld und Busch und Wald mein Blick.
... Dich rufen alle meine Lieder;
... O komm', Geliebte, mir zurück!
... O komm', Geliebte, mir zurück!
_____

English Translation: To the Distant One
...
...So have I truly lost you?
...Have you, o fair one, fled from me?
...Yet still I can hear in my accustomed ears
...Every word, every tone of your voice.
...
...Just as the wanderer's gaze in the morning
...Searchingly pierces the heavens in vain
...When, concealed in the blue expanse
...High above, the lark sings to him:
...
...So does my gaze anxiously search here and there,
...Through field and bush and forest,
...Singing to you through all my songs,
...O come, my darling, back to me!
...O come, my darling, back to me!

  • Nice composition, nice piano, wonderful alto :-) but why the mess in your MAH clip comment section?

  • @89hedgehog I don't know why it's such a big deal about different opinions. Don't wanna get involved anymore, so I'll just leave it that way. Eventually, ppl will calm down, I hope. Thnx for the comment anyway.
