  • What an admirable man. Say what you want, but I can only think of one word to describe him. Integrity. How many men do you know that would give up the world for the one they love? I don't know very many. Maybe you all have noticed the staggering infidelity that grips society today? And here is a man who sacrificed all the world had to offer for love...astounding...simply astounding.

  • I think that despite her questionable beauty, Mrs. Simpson was one of those rare women who can make a man of insecure and uncertain sexual orientation feel like a man. She knew how to rouse him and make him feel confident in himself. For that he sacrificed everything! Tragic!!

  • @ClassValedictorian He didn't abdicate because of Wallace he as forced out and Wallace was the perfect chance. He was a Nazi sympathizer and fully expected England to lost the war thus he would be able to be reinstated as King. Search for Edward Traitor King.

  • @JuanMacready Anyone who thinks war with Nazi Germany was preventable knows nothing of history.

  • As painful as the abdication crisis must have been, I think in the long run Britain was better off with the dutiful George than it would have been with the cavalier Edward. (Plus without the abdication crisis, we may not have had Queen Elizabeth).

  • @RichardElden George VI was a man of duty.

  • @Abbeysums I agree, I think he thought of the Monarchy as an out-dated institition and it's rituals and routine as too dull and tedious for him.

  • Traitor King

  • In '36- the Gov. appeased Hitler & self-disarmed. Churchill said Hitler would attack, and was called a War Monger. Hopeless situation for a disarmed England! Did E. abdicate and fake his roll and position himself to mitigate harsh subjugation of England in future? In ‘40, did his words & dangerous wandering from Paris to Provence to Portugal, offer himself as “bait”, hoping to delay Hitler’s invasion past summer & radar setup? (Hitler did delay.) --Did Edward’s desperate acts save Briton?

  • @zzahier and the Nazi's

  • I don't believe that Edward ever wanted to be King and that he found a "way out" of the position he'd been groomed for since his birth. He wanted a way out and he found one.
