I got this 45 when it came out in 73. The great thing about this arrangement, (hard to hear on this mono channel) it was very early disco influence with the strings and pop beat. I don't remember if Sister Janet was excommunicated or not-- this was very controversial when it came out, many Catholics (and Rome) considered it sacrilegious, but her desire in making the record was only to encourage the younger generation to remember to pray the Lord's Prayer. I certainly did, it was one of my faves.

Amen Ticket88....I totally agree. I happen to LOVE this version of The Lord's Prayer....I too had this record...and my parents thought it to be sacreligious...however...I do not agree....look how popular Jesus Christ Superstar...or Godspell was...

@korleonis God created man in his own image. If you go to church in China you will find that the Chinese depict Christ as an Oriental with slanted eyes and long jet black hair.. If you go to Africa you will find that the Africans depict Christ as black with wooly hair. This was a nice video for this song. I have recently started bringing my daughter to "youth night" at the local united church. She was baptized as well. Although I am not religious and was not raised in Christianity I was singing this song for days after the meeting. It is a nice catchy tune.

@korleonis Who cares what color he was here on earth. I'm positive that bin laden is not in the running to look my Christ. Look at the eastern Icons in the Roman Cathedrals around our country. The one here at The Basilica /Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception in Denver is a gift of the Holy See, John Paul II. The Madonna & Child are very dark and Beautiful. This is the gift from the Holy See that was given to us when His Holiness elevated our Cathedral to a minor Basilica.
