It's important for the world to understand we, unlike some, are not a theocracy. I think that is what Obama was saying.

I think Obama is right , our government is a secular democratic/republic governed by laws created in congress and state legislatures. The Bible and Christian traditions have no authoritative standing in legislation, the court system or (which is what Obama's comment was aimed at) foriegn policy. I don't think a charactoristic shared by a majority of the population necessarily defines how it's government operates.
