He is the opposite of pretentious. He is a minimalist. And he is brilliant.

@thinker93 people just won't stop using the word "pretentious" these days. what exactly is pretentious about what he says, and how is it pretentious? follow the vocabulary meaning while you're at it.

This man may be very smart, and he seems to be making good work, but why does he have the right to be so damn pretentious?

@opusnumberken Philip Glass appears to have commisioned two recordings. One from the premiere night in France in 1976 (fragments of which can be found on Robert Wilson's Absolute Wilson DVD) and the second the 1986 reproduction seen here. PS For those who are interested the musical score for the entire opera can be found at rapidshare under: 2908812104/Glass-Einstein_On_t

To jabrinks- Do not post such language on my page you idiot, you not only show disrespect to the composer and performers, you show a great level of stupidity and lack of education in the arts, go find something more on your level like Sesame Street.

AGREED @thinker93, Glass has a very defined musical language that provokes the listener tolisten to music in a new way. It is not pretentious, it forces the audience to view theater in a new way, the sets were designed first, then Glass set them to music, to me a brilliant concept in theater, however the audience should be open to new ways of viewing theater, and if not, LISTEN TO SOMETHING ELSE, THE BEATLES, YANI, THE BARNEY SONG, you have full permission to listen to something else-Glass

The entire video recording is not available, any I know at least, but I love that about it though, I my opinion, those who were there to experience it live , "shared a dream..." Those of us from a new generation, wait......to share this experience for the first time....a work that has been monumental in its effect on the direction of theater music..

Like Glass explains, it acts as a shared dream of who Einstein was (pictures and sciences), in this case, here is a person who knew nothing about him (the young boy) and I believe Glass is sharing with the audience what it would be like to try to figure out exactly who he was knowing nothing of history. "Chris who is Einstein?"
