Mint 12 Multi Session

This tests the multiple xsessions possible with Linux Mint 12 (linuxmint.com). From the standard installation you can do this test.
You can switch sessions without log-out first using the potentials of the Linux X-Server. This shows my experiment with it. You can follow up on your own risk. Bear in mind you may run 2 sessions from the same software stack and from the same /Home directory or partition. That could lead to data conflicts, program crashes or refusal to start yet another instance of software on another x-server screen.

First of all we change in: (Terminal)
sudo gedit /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config
Allowed-user to: anybody

This may pose a minimal security risk, but for testing this won't be significant. Server-user know to protect their systems!

In shorthand this is the following procedure:

Make a new (hidden) file in /Home called: .xinitrc
Here you type 1 line and save it: exec ck-launch-session gnome-session-cinnamon

next: use the TERMINAL type: startx -- :1 Press return

Press there: CTRL+ALT+F7 to return to the regular desktop
Next press: CTRL+ALT+F8 to switch to second session etc. v.v.

As long as the Terminal remains active the multi-session continuous.
For the duration of your testing Minimize its screen if you like.

If you installed LXDE desktop from the Software Manager (in Mint 12) then change the -xinitrc line to: exec ck-launch-session startlxde
to start and test that session.
