Here's "Welcome to Hollywood," the best track from the Asylum Choir's LOOK INSIDE THE ASYLUM CHOIR album, released on Smash Records in 1968.

The Asylum Choir included a young Leon Russell.

  • How many album covers came out with this release? I know I had an original one with the peace sign on the toilet paper. Anyway, cool post. Thanks!

  • At least 2 is the easiest answer. The first one is the one I show with the toilet paper, and then it was released with a photo of the two guys.

  • Thanks for posting this, tho I have to disagree that this is the best track. Every track on this amazing LP is great! Thieves in the Choir, Soul Food, etc. Marco Benno and Leon Russell were a dynamite combo that I've been listening to with pleasure since this album came out 40 YEARS AGO!

  • I have to admit that I'm a bit surprised to see folks saying that they think every song on the album is good. To be honest, I find many of the other songs a bit boring. But I'm glad, of course, that others enjoy the album start to finish. I know there are many records that I personally love but that others might consider "overrated," so it goes both ways.

  • A pychedelic masterpiece on Mercury's Smash label. One of the shortest album of the late 60s, but every cut is a slickly produced gem.

  • I agree with everyone else about this album (Look Inside). It is extraordinary! Many of the songs got airplay on a progressive/alternative radio station in Sarasota, Florida way back in 1968/1969. Surprisingly, NO ONE has posted the complete classic "Episode Containing 3 Songs: N.Y. Op./Land Of Dog/Mr. Henri The Clown" in its entirety. I grew up in the 60's and I would love to hear that again. It was probably the greatest Psychedelic/Underground/Hippie Coffeehouse medley recorded!

  • @ktsenya2 Thanks

  • @BW92116 The Host after Dr Demento was Mike Harrison and his program was called Harrison's Mike.

  • This album is great, every song is good. My favourite is Theives in the Choir. Black Sheep Boogaloo is cool too, it sounds like the inspiration for 'The End' by The Beatles.

  • Someone actually checked that they don't like this???!! Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I am sorry, if you can't dig this album you obviously missed the 60's & probably like/listen to the commercial fluff that is played on the radio today, which is sad....

  • This song was played every Sunday night at 10 p.m. on KMET in Los Angeles, as the opening of a talk radio show. The Dr. Demento show was from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday, then there was a call-in talk show right after it, but I can't remember who the host was. But they always played this song as the opening of that show.

  • I have loved this record for most of my music loving life. I'm now 53! Leon and Marc were way ahead of their time on this one. I am a vinyl collector and FYI - The toilet roll cover is the RARE one. I have multipal copies of both : ) Thieves In The Choir is another gem on this record as is Henry The Clown. Thanks for posting this. Very kool. I saw Leon last year at BB KINGS in NYC and he sucked : (

  • One of my favorite Leon Russell tracks from my favorite of his albums (w/Marc Benno, of course). The only track I like better is Thieves in the Choir.
