He said that it has always been difficult for him to watch the opening of "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C." (1964) because many of the Marines that he is seen marching with were killed in Vietnam.

I wasn't surprised Jim Nabors (Gomer) was gay. Way back then in the show, him and Floyd the barber acted like punks or sissy's, "that,s what we said back then", gay was happy and happy only.

This small intro got me thinking about the military, and 2 years later i joined the Navy and it was just like the intro to Gomer Pyle, with the Navy band marching on the drill field. To this day, i still like to see the military bands in motion.

Thank you!! That question came up on a local radio station trivia game and I nearly stripped a gear in my mental transmission trying to remember it. I thought it was something simple, and it was!

I think Sgt. Carter's girlfriend was called Bunny.

Sad Sack, Beetle Bailey, and McHale's Navy all came before Gomer Pyle.

Didn't they do reruns of this on TV land along with I love Lucy, Andy Griffith show and Dick Van Dyke?

If that was really the Marines, Pyle would be doing a crapload of pushups.

I used to wonder why Gomer wasn't married to Lou Ann when they made "Back to Mayberry" back in the mid '80s. He and Goober owned the G&G filling station, but no mention was made of Lou Ann. I guess we all know why now.
