First turn electricity off, only then remove the cover. Or check the voltage in hot gloves.

Ya know, I have watched a ton of these how-to "replace your light switch" videos and I have one thing to say. If your Electric panel is BADLY marked or not marked at all, then turn the MAIN breaker off. I mean, duh. If you cut the power to the whole house for a few minutes, no big deal. Better safe than sorry, eh!? I did this today and felt much better about messing around with those wires.

Definitely, the circuit breaker HAS TO BE TURNED OFF FIRST thing before you do ANYTHING else.

My friend insists that the circuit breaker has to be turned off first before I attempt touching let alone un- screwing any of the wires.
