In their homeland of Sudan, Sudanese tribes carry on long standing rivalries, which have often been carried by refugees to their new home in the United States. While many communities struggle with these ongoing "tribalisms" the Sudanese in Grand Island, Nebraska have come together in unity. They are attempting to look beyond their identities as Equatoria, Foer, Nuba and Dinka. They have also reached out to the Somalis in their effort. A celebration of unity was held in September of 2009.
