A miller calls it a day when he stops the windmill and scrolls up the sails.
This mill is a drainage mill used to keep Holland dry. With each passing wing it is able to pump 1000 liters.

This mill is a drainange mill to keep the land dry, which is importand because half of the Netherlands lie below sealevel. The mills are now replaced by modern electrical and gas driven pumps, but they can still be used as a backup:

If you visit Holland you can visit The "Kinderdijk", which is a complete windmill complex. Also the land between Leiden and Schiphol is full of draining mills, usually operating on Saturdays.

The reason the miller rolls up the sails is to reduce the wind catching surface of the wings.

It prevents damage in storms, making the mill less likely to "break loose".

Most mills in The Netherlands are open for visits in the weekend.
