"Lux Aurumque" by Eric Whitacre
arr. Zachary McCoy
Performed by the 7AM Marimba Choir
Zachary McCoy, conductor

Lux Aurumque, "Light and Gold", was written by American composer Eric Whitacre (1970) and was originally scored for SATB choir. The lyrics used are from an English poem by Edward Esch, translated to Latin by Charles Anthony Silvestri. Whitacre is also a conductor and lecturer. While Whitacre writes for instrumental music as well, he is also one of the most popular and performed of modern choral composers.

Lyrics:
Lux,
Calida gravisque
Pura velut aurum,
Et canunt angeli
Molliter modo natum.

English Translation:
Light,
Warm and heavy
As pure gold,
And the angels sing softly
To the newborn babe.
