i am a soccer player, and i was born with flat feet. i didnt have any problems up until this past soccer season. i started to get really bad shin splints to the point where i couldnt walk up and down stairs after a practice or game. i went to c my school trainer and she said it was cuz wen i stand up my ankles roll in kind of causing my feet to be really flat. and now wen i stand in one place for too long my the back of my heels start to hurt. i have orthotics but they arent custom made.
Hi ,
You would be best off asking your referring practitioner what is expected during your hospital visit or phone the office of the hospital consultant you will see with questions prior to your visit. I would not be overly concerned - flat feet are commonly treated with exercies and/or foot orthotics. All the best.

Hi, Yes, foot orthotics are quite often used for flat feet. The video is a technique for use by prescribing practitioners to capture the size & shape of foot with specific joints held in reference positions. A lab that makes custom foot orthotics can do so from these casts which can be used to alleviate sympotoms caused by problems such as flat feet.

Q. Why we do not accept foam imprint boxes instead of casts
In summary, they do not capture the information that a Plaster of Paris slipper cast does and in our experience make a very much compromised custom foot orthotic. If you had a mould made form a Plaster of Paris cast and a foam impression in your hands the differences are very clear.

I think you may have misunderstood the concept of a flat foot. The foot moves through a range of motion during gait and this would include an arching and flattening of the arch at different stages. Both essential components to normal gait. Simply, when the foot has an extended flattened phase it can throw out the lower limb mechanics causing problems in the foot/ ankle/ knee/ hips or even lower back. Best to seek out the help of your local foot care specialist

I'm (or was) a speedskater and I recently did some research on feet and discovered that I have flat feet. I have had arch and mainly shin pain while skating after getting a custom pair of speed skating boots made. turns out the guy who casted me, did it with me having no weight on my feet which makes me have an arch. when I put my foot down on the floor I have almost no arch. this all would explain why I have no pain in my one skates which has a low arch, and why my others with one HURT!
