It was a cruel crash. A high side that cost him everything.
Schwantz hated winning the championship that way

Sorry I'm way too young to know this great rider. I was 9 at the time, he was paralyzed.....gp is dangerous, still wish I was in it tho

For the record... Wayne's broken back happened because the Italian circuit had a low kerb running around the outside of the track and he slid over it. Purely a freak accident but unfortunately, and in my mind criminally, it robbed everyone of quite possibly he greatest battle 500 GPs never saw: that being a dominant Wayne Rainey against a certain Mr M.Doohan. Schwantz, to this day, is still not impressed with the way he won the championship that year. Wayne being paralysed was tragic!! Thanks.
