We've had deer in the area before, but I've never seen anything like this.

We were just looking at the onset of another snowstorm when on our driveway was this deer, missing a leg and looking rather beaten, eating from one of our shrubs.

I do not know what happened to it, nor were we able to do much for it as soon after this shot it ran back into a wooded area but not before tripping in the snow.

What compelled me to upload this was to illustrate the impact on what construction, development and demographic expansion do to the surrounding wildlife, particularly when no proper precautions are in place.

In this instance, the poorly planned construction of the Red Hill Creek Expressway has been driving these animals out into the residential neighbourhoods.

Perhaps needless to say, this is a very sad sight for me...

  • I grew up in the Montmorency Dr. area. Spent 44 years in the east end in total. Before the HWY was built, I would see a lot of deer in the Red Hill valley while biking. They had good access in and out, with out crossing busy roads. Never did I ever see a deer in the small valleys nearer to our house. It was immediately after they built the HWY, that deer started showing up in numbers, right in our parking lot! Now, they don't quite know where to go! Their all blocked in. What a shame!

  • I have seen a few deer's in such state of agony from time to time who came down from the forest and lied down on our driveway, just as it was beging for mercy.

of course the only thing anyone can do for a deer in such state is to shot it so it wont suffer anymore. I have shot a'lot wounded deer, and it is always out of mercy.

  • u suck

  • shoulda shot it...

  • OMG is that deer missing a part of it's back left leg????? that's aweful!!!!

  • LMFAO I Agree Bro

  • my God, how awful... but definitely relevant. i can imagine becoming very emotional if i was in your position. poor deer.
