It's is simply incredible to hear noise refined into a symphony of splender. It is hard not to become emotional when listening to perfection.

I heard him in 1958 sing the duke in my home town, Chicago he was great-- a voice that carried even without being huge and was well placed and beautiful. He sang very well till the end at 49 yrs.

Comparing artistry is unfair to the art. Each artist brings a different sensibility and physicality to the finished piece.
Jussi however was blessed with an instrument, technique and ability to express emotion which has yet to be surpassed.
Lanza brings emotion but lacks the finesse and control. Pav is great and Domingo rarely puts a foot wrong. Love Corelli but del Monaco is not my cuppa tea.
Only Jussi sings the final B every so slightly sharp adding frisson and a spine tingle.
Bravo!

This is my favorite recording of Nessum Dorma, fro the complete opera recording. I saw Nillson with De Stefano at the Lyric in Chicago singing Turandot in 1961 or '62. De Stefano was way past his prime and the voice was no match for Nillson in the last act. I saw Bjorling in his last concert in Chicago (1959) at Orchestra Hall. He did six encores for us, and they finally turned off all the lights!

By far the most emotional, technically sound performance of this stunning aria I've heard.
