Ilana Shafir is a world-renowned artist from Ashkelon, Israel. She is famous for her watercolor paintings, ceramics and modern mosaic works. Particularly compelling about Ilana's work is the way in which it reflects and evolves alongside her life experiences. In 1960 Ilana began to work on mosaics and developed the innovative approach of 'spontaneous mosaic'. This video titled 'Mosaics' is the last in a series of eight short films about Ilana's life and work. She creates her large-scale mosaics without any preliminary sketches or drawings using a great range of materials. Shafir gives workshops around the world on the 'spontaneous mosaic' method. אילנה שפיר היא אמנית בין-לאומית מאשקלון, שהתפרסמה בעבודותיה המגוונות הכוללות ציורים בצבעי מים, פיסול בקרמיקה, ומוזאיקה מודרנית. התפתחותה של עבודתה האמנותית שזורה בקורות חייה. הסרטון 'מוזאיקות' הינו האחרון בסדרה של שמונה סרטונים המלווים את יצירתה האמנותית במשך 70 שנה. החל משנת 1960 יוצרת אילנה עבודות מוזאיקה (פסיפס). במשך השנים פיתחה אילנה שיטת עבודה ייחודית הידועה בעולם בשם 'המוזאיקה הספונטנית'. בשיטה זו יוצרת אילנה עבודות גדולות ממדים ללא כל סקיצה או רישום מוקדמים. כיום נחשבת לאילנה לאחת מאמניות המוזאיקה המובילות בעולם, ואמנים רבים נוהרים לסדנאות שהיא מעבירה בארץ ובחו"ל ללמוד את השיטה. Ilana Shafir is an amazing women. I have heard her lecture and have been fortunate enough to taken a 'spontaneous mosaic' workshop by her. It was a wonderful experience and hope to take another class again.
